Late era (79-on) (I dont know any)

As an opening act on this particular evening, the boys stun the Iron Butterfly crowd with a sonic bombardment beyond belief. It was a great night to be in KC, providing me with some fond lasting memories.

Oh, is this EVER the right question for the right time. Will secure the link shortly, but here are the ONES you must sample:

6-14-68 (poor quality, BUT AUD!!!)

Mystery 68 (ie, the last entry for the year here at the forum, check out tracks 1 and 10 on disk 4!!!)

These will convince you like NO other song the boys did that Jerry should be ranked with Eric, Jimi, and the rest.

Seriously.

I have two favorites.

The one from DP2 is outstanding, as is the one from the famous June 24, 1970 show

edit: I should also mention 1-22-78 with the nice intro

Derrr...this is the ONE I was just mentioning in my response to GC! IE, your choice of 22 Jan to go with 6-24 is one of the (counted them now) four "post 71" versions I have...

Synergy...or some such.

6/24/70 gives me goosebumps. 9/18 has great sound and is well played by all. Good choices!

Ooooohhh...the June show. Nice.

Another one in this spirit is the 9-19-70 version I am always going on about...the slower, but not as slow as your mid 70s choice, version.

Cool.

OK, gotta do it.

you must hear this brilliant '77 version. My fave of all times:

Check out the relaxed but hard and gritty bluesy intro & note the intensity of the jam section, most notably the runaway drum madness provided by Billy & Mickey.

Thanks GC! It's the thought that counts! Seriously...I have only a few post 71 versions of this song, and amazingly enough, along with this one, I have one from Jan 78, and another couple from between 77 and 87, that Dire or someone else here suggested, but I can't place them off the top of my head just now.

On the strength of your recommendation, I will dredge up these and give them a listen.

Ok i got this covered -
here's the breakdown -

60's era -check this out ....

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1968-12-29.sbd.miller.80197.sbeok.flac16

Seriously - they are havin sooo much fun this night playin' this tune. Its fast and snappy, but well played and upbeat. Its Awesome.

Ok - 70's - tuff one -- early 70's ... try this ..
http://www.archive.org/details/gd70-10-31.late.sbd.cousinit.16902.sbeok.shnf

Its pretty pure. Its nice and slow - almost bluesy like for a bit. Phils voice is crystal clear on back ups (which i love) and the crowd is just nuts over it. They really sound super here. Crazy Jam after *one man gathers* verse. Really gets the *Stephen* feel out of it.

Ok ... late 70's.... well, while many may disagree - give this date a listen to. I absolutly love this version...

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1979-01-10.sonyecm-wagner.minches.77328.flac16

Theres alot of heart in this one. Donna sounds really good and the crowd (once again NY) knows they were treated to sumthin special. I thought the jammin portion was really well played and enjoyed by the band and the audience. As Paris would say - its hot. Seriously.

Give these three Stephens a shot. You will not be disappointed. Its like three different songs of the same tune. Just my humble opinion.
